A week Trip to Druk Yul in 2026

There is nothing like a 7-night/8-day trip to Bhutan in 2026 to explore its mysterious beauty. The homeland of the Dzongkha people, Bhutan is located in a high mountain country, nestled in the Himalayas, dubbed in the Dzongkha language as Druk Yul-Home of the Thunder Dragon.

The dragon (“Druk”) is the representation of power, spiritual legacy and the violent mountain storms that resonate in its valleys. During your 8-day adventure in 2026, you will visit some of the oldest monasteries hanging on cliffs, flying over the Alps on flying past, and indulging yourself with a culture that celebrates nature, tradition and inner peace.

You can feel that Bhutan is not a mere tourist destination when you are strolling in the fortress-like dzongs of the valleys or sitting between prayer flags fluttering in the Himalayan peaks to meditate.

Essential Information

Best Time To Go On The Bhutan Tour From Nepal

Spring (March–May)

Spring (March  May) is one of the main travel seasons in Bhutan. The weather slowly heats up once winter ends, so days feel nice while nights stay chilly. With clearer skies and sharp views, tourists get to spot stepped farms and flowering rhododendrons along the hills. Snow peaks can be seen in the distance, glistening. The valleys turn a beautiful green, the streams are clear, and the birdlife begins to return in every corner.

The roads and passes are still largely in good shape to travel to Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha. Festivals begin to flower in March and April to bring colour and meaning to every visit. Water-resistant layers, good walking footwear, and sunscreen are a must, along with warm layers for the morning.

Autumn (September–November)

The autumn period (September–November) is the second peak time for visiting Bhutan. The humidity from the summer monsoon season has left the atmosphere, and the air is now feeling fresh. The skies are bright and crisp, and provide the best visibility for pictures and distant mountain panoramas. The temperatures during the day remain pleasant and stable, while the valley days are getting colder, but refreshing.

The roads and passes remain dry and sound, allowing for longer trips, such as Thimphu to Punakha or Paro to Thimphu. Fall provides good trekking, clear summits, and colourful valley foliage.

Off-Season Tour to Bhutan From Nepal

Monsoon (June  August)

It can be rainy in Bhutan from about June to August. It can rain frequently and continuously. Some trails and roads may be slick in higher regions. Clouds can obscure visibility to distant mountains. Valleys turn lush green, and waterfalls become wall-like torrents of water.

So with fewer tourists visiting, Bhutan becomes a more peaceful place in time as well. It can be a good time for tourists who enjoy quiet scenery and do not mind a little rain and humidity.

Winter (December  February)

Winter in Bhutan is from December to February, and days are pleasantly cold with crisp, blue skies. They offer the best mountain views. Nights can be cold, under freezing temperatures are common in the mountains. Snow can even block passes in remote regions. Road travel definitely requires careful driving, as it can be icy and slower.

Also, some trekking routes may be icy too. However, with lower prices in accommodation and fewer tourists, the valleys fall quiet. The winter months can be an attractive experience for the traveller who is not too concerned with high altitude adventuring.

Essential Dos and Don'ts for Your 8-Day Bhutan Tour from Nepal

Accommodation

When travelling to Bhutan from Nepal, accommodation is one of the most important factors in maximising comfort and experience. In most cases, good tour packages include 3-star to 5-star hotels in Thimphu, Paro, and Punakha. Besides, you can expect a private room in most cases and an attached bathroom with comfortable furnishings and good service.

If you want a budget-friendly stay or a more local feel, lodges and traditional farmhouses outside main towns are also an option. The quality depends on how remote your accommodation is and the level of comfort you desire.

Luxury hotels offer full comfort and amenities. Mid-tier hotels are clean and pleasant, though they may lack spas or high-end decor.

When taking a Bhutan tour from Nepal, it helps to choose a hotel in a central area for morning hikes and nearby excursions. Also, make sure your hotel has reliable power, hot water, and WiFi.

Electricity

Electricity is available in most places you visit in Bhutan. It is reliable at proper accommodations and in several populated valleys during an average 8-day tour from Nepal. Hotels, lodges, and café-restaurants usually have plenty of light and power outlets. Many also use backup generators or batteries, and blackouts are rare.

The normal voltage is around 220–240 V. You may find that plugs differ from those at home, so bringing a universal adapter is a smart idea. Charging your phone or camera won’t be an issue in main towns. But in remote areas, power can be scarce. Some places rely on solar energy or have only limited outlets.

Bringing a power bank or spare battery helps if you’re away from sockets during long drives or hikes. Electricity-charging costs are usually included in room rates. Still, it’s worth confirming at day-tour stops.

Communication

It is easy to stay in touch from Bhutan, particularly if you are travelling from Nepal. Each town has a good signal, as does the area around the hotels. You can buy a local SIM card once you arrive. It allows you to make calls, and data use comes at an extra cost. International calls are expensive, even short ones. So, limit calls to family and friends, or use internet voicemail instead.

Most hotels have free Wi‑Fi. You can use it for voice or video calls. In lodges, you may be charged for a weak signal, especially in high mountains. It helps to plan. Switch your phone to roaming before leaving Nepal, at least for the travel day.

Once in Bhutan, change to a local SIM. You’ll get smoother connectivity and lower costs. The network is dependable for contact and even work, depending on your stay. But at a high pass or deep valley, signals may drop.

Internet

Finding the internet in Bhutan is easy. Hotels, cafes, and large lodges usually include it as part of accommodation or coverage. This is great for travellers from Nepal who enjoy staying in touch with family and friends. They can share photos, too. The reliability and speed vary. Towns and the valleys you travel through have stable connections.

But when on remote trails, connections might stop or slow down. If you buy a local SIM card, data plans are affordable and simple to use. You can connect easily for social media and updates. If you want to keep things simple, you can just access data when your signal drops.

If you start your Bhutan trip in Kathmandu, download maps and offline travel guides first. Do it while you have a strong connection at your hotel or in the Paro neighbourhood. Save data on the go as you drive or hike through the stunning landscapes ahead. Do your heavy browsing, uploads, and updates once you reach towns. Charging devices or finding connections away from towns can take extra time. Bring a power bank; it will always pay off.

Bathroom Facilities

The standards of bathrooms on a Bhutan tour from Nepal are good. Most hotels in Thimphu, Paro, and Punakha will have en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water. Water heating comes from an electric geyser or a solar system, and it is quite steady.

In budget or rural lodges, rooms may remain modest, but clean. The bathroom may be shared or outside the room. You can anticipate this when your tour involves rural and higher altitude stops. In these places, bathrooms consist of basic amenities such as a toilet, shared or private, basin, shower, and hot water is not as assured as in the major cities.

We encourage you to bring a quick-drying towel and your preferred small toiletries to make travelling easier. Bhutan has strict environmental protection guidelines, and as a result, you won’t see high-flow plumbing without a conscious purpose behind it. Please use water wisely.

For most travellers on the standard eight-day Bhutan from Nepal itinerary, the bathroom comfort level is guaranteed. Hotels will usually provide a minimum star rating of 3-star hotels. After a day of travel and sightseeing, you will find hygienic, modern conveniences that include the essentials. Combine that mix with the cold, fresh mountain air, and your wonderful stay just begins. In Bhutan, simplicity is luxury.

Travel Insurance

Though not a requirement in Bhutan, travel insurance is a good idea. Travelling from Nepal involves flights, mountains, and some rugged terrain. You want a solid policy to cover things like flight delays, medical emergencies, or evacuation. You would also want coverage for helicopter rescue, damaged or lost luggage or personal property, or theft of your luggage or gear.

Your tour operator will take care of much of the logistics, but the insurance is your responsibility. There are some remote parts of Bhutan. Evacuation from a remote area can be costly. Make sure to select a policy that includes coverage for high-altitude travel or trekking, emergency evacuation or reparation, and repatriation. Read the policy before you depart Nepal, and make sure it covers conditions in both Nepal and Bhutan. Verify it covers all the planned activities. Keep the proof of insurance on hand.

Travel with peace of mind. Even the safest of situations can have surprises. Flights might be delayed, and luggage could be missing. Changes in altitude could also impact your health suddenly. Good insurance can make your difficulties a story instead of an event, which makes all the difference in the mountains.

How to Get a Bhutan Visa and Permit Successfully?

To visit Bhutan, almost all international travelers except citizens of India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives require a Bhutan visa. Independent travel is not allowed; booking through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator or authorized partner is mandatory. Visitors must be accompanied by a registered guide and use private transport arranged by the operator.

Visa Application

When your Bhutan trip has been finalised, the tour company sends in your full payment and passport details. After that, you will receive a visa letter from the Tourism Council of Bhutan. Make sure to keep this. You will have to show this to the airline staff and later at the airport in Paro. It is essential for both your boarding and your visa stamp when you enter the country. If you do not have this complete visa letter, the airline will stop you from boarding.

Special Permits

You may have to secure a permit for entry into some restricted locations or sacred sites, but don't worry, your guide will do all of that if needed while you are on your lovely tour.

Exemptions and Entry for Neighbours

Regarding visitors from India, Bangladesh and the Maldives, no visa is required to enter Bhutan. However, visitors are required to carry a valid passport or voter ID. Entry permits will be issued upon arrival.

Booking and Travel Advice

In terms of plans or outlook, Bhutan expects to be fully reopened by 2025/2026. If you book with a reputable operator in the country, or in Nepal, they will take care of the visa process. They will also have great guides, organised entry permits and will also assist in making your journey smooth and secure.

Carry-On Baggage Restrictions

Please ensure your hand luggage fits within 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm, otherwise it'll be removed at boarding. Bags that are too big or oddly shaped won't stay onboard  instead, they'll get tagged as "Limited Release Luggage" on the spot.

Guidelines for Transit and Security Screening

If you have connecting flights that require a security screening again, you will not be allowed liquids and gels greater than 100 ml when purchased in India. That applies regardless of where this was purchased within the airport.

But if it was purchased in the airport of the departure country, you may keep it, following local laws.

Check-in Timing and Procedures

  • Counters start operating three hours ahead of your flight.
  • Groups bigger than 9 need to show up two hours ahead of time.
  • Closing time for counters is 45 minutes before departure anyone arriving later will be denied from the flight.
  • Boarding ends 25 minutes before the flight leaves show up late, and you'll be left behind.
