Kathmandu Durbar Square, which includes the residence of the Living Goddess (Kumari Ghar), ferocious Kal Bhairab, the red monkey god, and hundreds of erotic carvings are a few examples of the area. An old historical building of the Malla periwhich who ruled Nepal till the 17th century separate kingdoms with old palaces within the city of Kathmandu valley Patan / Lalitpur and Bhaktapur. The Valley was divided into three kingdoms during the Yaksha Malla period Kathmandu / Patan and Bhaktapur city. Kathmandu Square teems with colorful life and vendors with handicrafts around Kastamandap Temple. This Temple was built with the wood of a single tree and is the source from which the Kathmandu Valley got its name.
All woodcarvings, statues, and architecture in this area are exceptionally fine, and Kathmandu Durbar Square is among the most important sights for travelers to see. The complex also houses the Tribhuvan Museum which carries the mementos of different Shah Kings. Interesting places to visit are Akash Bhairab Temple /Hanuman Dhoka / Temple of Kumari / Kastha Mandap where Kathmandu's name derives from an old temple built from the wood of a single tree.
